Jazz Jackrabbit CD-ROM

Jazz Jackrabbit CD-ROM

One of the first games I ever played, and one of my favourites to this day.

Jazz Jackrabbit is a re-intepretation of the classic Aesop fable, The Tortoise and the Hare. Except it's set something like 3,000 years in the future, so they now have guns and spaceships. What ensues is a solid 2D platformer with a fantastic Looney Tunes-ish aesthetic. The CD-ROM version includes a few animations towards the back end of the game, too. All fun stuff.

The problem is, the game's level design really drops off past the end of the first episode. Admittedly, I haven't played all the way through, so it may well pick up again later - but episode 2 is just plain evil through its sloppy design. It's a shame, because the controls are responsive and fluid, and the music is ace.

Ah well. Nostalgia rules over all, so this game remains a proud part of my collection.
